Gynaecomastia The Male Breast Reduction! | Sunrise Hospital

Gynaecomastia – The Male Breast Reduction!

It is a common condition, though quite often neglected, where men face a medical disorder of over-developed or oversized chest area, appearing as breasts! This condition is called Gynecomastia! It occurs due to the reasons such as hormonal changes (pubertal, etc), heredity, obesity or usage of certain drugs.

Men suffering from this condition may not go through any physical discomfort but they do feel mental stress, emotional discomfort, and embarrassment. It can affect their self-confidence and self-esteem, and may also try to avoid physical intimacy.

The condition is formed due to:

  • Excess fat around breast area
  • Excess glandular tissue development
  • Excess skin on breast area

Also, it may affect one breast or both in some cases, and both in others.

If someone is suffering from Gynecomastia, they can opt for a surgical breast reduction, provided they:

  • Cannot be treated through alternative medicine.
  • Are not suffering from life-threatening diseases.
  • Are non-smokers and non-drug users.
  • Have healthy body weight and are not planning to lose or gain weight.
  • Have stabilized breast development.
  • Are greatly affected by the feeling that their breasts are too large.

At Sunrise Hospitals, we have specialized and qualified plastic surgery team who come with substantial experience and in-depth know-how of this medical condition. Patients here are offered utmost care under the most adept supervision and are treated with the help of most modern and sophisticated equipment.

This is how Gynecomastia surgery or male breast reduction surgery is performed at Sunrise Hospitals:

Anesthesia:

Patient is administered with an approved dose of anesthesia to provide comfort during and after the surgery. The procedure can be performed under local infiltration anaesthesia or general anesthesia. Best option is considered as per individual patients.

Power Assisted Liposuction:

Keyhole incisions are made in the arm-pit and side of the breast (3mm each) and cannula (thin hollow tube) is inserted to suck out the extra fat / tissue. The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat, which is then removed from the body by vacuum suction. In case there is some extra breast or skin tissue left after liposuction, excision technique is used to correct it, via inconspicuous keyhole areolar incisions. Areola may also be reduced and nipple is repositioned to provide a natural male contour.

Results and Recovery:

The results of a Gynecomastia surgery are usually permanent. We advice our patients to maintain a healthy body weight and stay away from usage of certain drugs (if that was the cause, as stated earlier), in order to prevent the recurrence.

Tiny dressings are applied to the incisions for effective healing. A specialized medical grade compression garment is used to minimize the discomfort and swelling, and to support the new chest contour.

We always provide specific instructions to take care of the chest area in recovery period. Adequate medication to apply and to take orally is prescribed to aid the healing process.

Post surgery, you must avoid excessive force, strenuous activities, or fast motion at least for 3-4 weeks.

At Sunrise Hospitals, we are committed to your cosmetic needs and health! A healthy, attractive and admirable body is your right and we are here to help you attain that!
